JERUSALEM, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese troops shot at Israeli surveillance drones on Wednesday night, without damaging them, the Israeli army said.

An army spokesperson said in a statement that shots were fired from Lebanese territory towards "an air space" in which Israeli military drones were operating.

"The drones completed their mission and no IDF (Israel Defense Forces) damage was reported," said the spokesperson.

According to Lebanese reports, two Israeli drones were detected flying low over the village of al-Adaisseh in south Lebanon.

Unmanned Israeli surveillance drones and other aircraft occasionally enter Lebanon's air space, but the shooting was a rare attempt to intercept them.

Hezbollah has vowed earlier this week not to allow Israel to violate Lebanese sovereignty in the wake of a recent series of airstrikes attributed to Israel, raising the tensions between the two long-time enemies.
