Uruguay include uncapped duo for friendlies

MONTEVIDEO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Uncapped pair Matias Vina and Darwin Nunez have been drafted into Uruguay's squad for upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States, the South American country's football association said on Wednesday.

Vina has been in impressive form for Uruguayan first division outfit Nacional while Nunez was chosen just three days after his move from Penarol to Spain's Almeria.

Penarol defender Giovanni Gonzalez was also among those added to a preliminary squad that was announced earlier this month.

They replaced Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, Barcelona forward Luis Suarez and Inter Milan defender Diego Godin, all of whom are injured.

Uruguay will meet Costa Rica in San Jose on September 6 and the United States in St Louis four days later.

The Uruguay squad is as follows:

Goalkeeper: Fernando Muslera (Galatasaray) and Martin Campana (Independiente).

Defenders: Giovanni Gonzalez (Penarol), Jose Maria Gimenez (Atletico Madrid), Sebastian Coates (Sporting Lisbon), Martin Caceres, Mathias Suarez (Montpellier) Gaston Silva (Independiente) and Marcelo Saracchi (Leipzig).

Midfielders: Diego Laxalt (Milan Milan), Naithan Nandez (Cagliari), Lucas Torreira (Arsenal), Matias Vecino (Inter Milan), Rodrigo Bentancur (Juventus), Nicolas Lodeiro (Seattle Sounders), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid), Giorgian de Arrascaeta (Flamengo) and Brian Lozano (Santos Laguna).

Forwards: Brian Rodriguez (Los Angeles FC), Jonathan Rodriguez (Cruz Azul), Maximiliano Gomez (Valencia), Matias Vina (Nacional), Darwin Nunez (Almeria).
