BEIJING, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition on John Rabe opened Tuesday at the Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Beijing.

The exhibition recast 30 years of life experience of the German businessman in China, who helped protect Chinese citizens during the 1937 Nanjing Massacre.

The exhibition will last until Oct. 7.

A total of 151 historical photos are on display at the exhibition, which consists of four parts with details from the Rabe family, his life in China and his contribution to Sino-German relations.

Regarded as the "Oskar Schindler of China," Rabe set up a security zone in Nanjing with a few remaining foreigners there and saved tens of thousands of lives. The Hamburg-born business representative of Siemens was called back to Germany in early 1938, taking with him a 10-volume diary that recorded the atrocities made by the Japanese invaders.

"Mr. John Rabe has great compassion for life and love of peace," said Li Zongyuan, curator of the museum, noting that it is important for people today to cherish the memory of China's foreign friends like Rabe.

Tuesday marked the 74th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II.
