BUDAPEST, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) president Raffaele Chiulli on Sunday described the inaugural World Urban Games as a big success and spoke highly of Budapest for setting an example for future hosts.

"The Games have been above all our initial expectations," he told reporters as the Games concluded its third and final day's competition. "We are very happy."

The Games has featured six sports including BMX freestyle, 3x3 basketball, breaking, flying disc, roller freestyle and parkour. BMX freestyle and 3x3 basketball will become medal events at Tokyo 2020 and breaking has been provisionally included on the sports program of Paris 2024.

Chiulli said that GAISF has no intention to make the Games bigger in size.

"To be very honest, the future is not to have something that is unnecessarily bigger, unnecessarily longer.

"The format has to be something in line with what the host city really wants, using existing infrastructure, and aiming to create a long-lasting legacy, engaging communities.

"We need to continue to offer this platform in coordination with the International Olympic Committee, we do not want to overlap any existing opportunities in the world of sport."

Budapest has the option to host the second Games in 2021 but they have announced earlier that they will not make the final decision until next March.

Chiulli said of Budapest's hesitation, "We are going to sit down with the city, and we need to hear whether they have appreciated what we have done.

"We will open up a dialogue with interested cities, but it is now clear what kind of event we are expecting, and a clear vision which has to be shared with the host city."
