Chinese shares close higher Tuesday

BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with recently listed companies and liquor makers surging the most.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.28 percent to close at 2,985.34 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.31 percent higher at 9,811.38 points.

The combined trading volume of stocks in the two indices expanded to 548 billion yuan (about 77.48 billion U.S. dollars) from 508 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Recently listed companies were among the biggest winners, with shares of CGN Power Co., Ltd, an operator of nuclear power stations, jumping 5.67 percent.

Liquor makers saw strong performance, with shares of Kweichow Moutai, the country's top alcohol brand, surging 3.05 percent to finish at a record high of 1,184 yuan, bringing the company's market capitalization to more than 1.48 trillion yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.61 percent to close at 1,694.6 points.
