TEHRAN, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Syrian army should provide security in the borders, including in Syria's northern borders with Turkey, official IRNA news agency reported.

"Turkey has concerns about the security of its southern borders (with Syria), and their concerns should be acknowledged," Rouhani said in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday.

"We have announced it clearly that the right way to establish security in the northern borders of Syria and in the southern borders of Turkey is only possible with the presence of Syrian army," he said.

"We should provide all the grounds for the presence of Syria's army in these regions, all other countries should help, the Americans should leave the region, and the Kurds should stand by the side of Syrian army," he noted.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the Islamic republic opposes any possible military operation by Turkey in Syria.

The ministry said that following the U.S. decision to pull its forces out of Syria, Iran "is following worrying news about possible entrance of Turkish forces into Syria."

Turkey is preparing to launch a military operation against the Kurdish militants in northern Syria following the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to leave the Arab state.
