AMMAN, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday hailed the killing of Islamic State (IS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as an important step for fighting terrorism.
The king made the comment during a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, said a Royal Court statement.
He also underscored that terrorism is a common enemy that targets innocent people without discrimination, targeting stability and human values.
The Jordanian leader vowed that Jordan will continue to exert every possible effort in fighting terrorism on the military, security and ideological fronts, and will remain a key and effective member in the U.S.-led anti-IS global coalition.
On Monday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said the killing of al-Baghdadi was a significant step in "our joint, continuing war against terrorists and their ideology of hate."
In a tweet on his official Twitter account, he said Jordan will remain at the forefront of efforts to destroy this evil in cooperation with our partners in the global coalition.
Trump announced on Sunday at the White House that al-Baghdadi died in a raid launched by U.S. special forces on the IS leader's compound in northern Syria.
