UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday appointed Damilola Ogunbiyi of Nigeria as his new special representative for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and co-chair of UN-Energy.

Guterres also welcomed Ogunbiyi's appointment as the chief executive officer of SEforALL by its administrative board, said his press office.

SEforALL is an international organization launched in 2011 by then UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to help mobilize the achievement of universal energy access, improve energy efficiency, and increase the use of renewable energy. UN-Energy is an inter-agency collaboration mechanism within the UN system in the field of energy.

Ogunbiyi succeeds Rachel Kyte of the United Kingdom.

Ogunbiyi, the current head of the Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency, brings extensive leadership experience and a track record of supporting energy access in Sub-Saharan Africa, said Guterres' press office.
