Paraguay call up uncapped midfielder Cubas for friendlies

ASUNCION, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Uncapped Talleres Cordoba midfielder Andres Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's national squad for friendlies against Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia, head coach Eduardo Berizzo said on Friday.

Cubas, who was born in Argentina and represented the Albiceleste at U-20 level, has a Paraguayan father and was made a citizen of the country in June.

Meanwhile, Berizzo recalled Portland Timbers defender Jorge Moreira, whose last international appearance was in 2017.

Missing from the squad were Flamengo midfielder Robert Piris and River Plate defender Robert Rojas.

Paraguay will play Bulgaria in Sofia on November 14 and Saudi Arabia in Riyadh five days later.

Following is the Paraguay squad:

Goalkeepers: Roberto Fernandez, Antony Silva.

Defenders: Fabian Balbuena, Gustavo Gomez, Junior Alonso, Blas Riveros, Bruno Valdez, Jorge Moreira.

Midfielders: Ramon Martinez, Richard Sanchez, Andres Cubas, Matias Rojas.

Forwards: Derlis Gonzalez, Miguel Almiron, Dario Lezcano, Braian Samudio, Angel Romero, Oscar Romero, Lorenzo Melgarejo.
