KUWAIT CITY, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait launched on Saturday a beach cleanup campaign to enhance people's environmental awareness.

The campaign, themed "Operation Turtle," was organized by the Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA) and Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy in Kuwait in Shuwaikh beach park.

Janan Behzad, KEPS secretary-general, said that KEPS has been a major participant in the campaign since 2000 as it is a community work that aims at promoting environmental awareness by drawing attention to the importance of coasts and their environments, marine organisms and habitats.

More than 400 participants participated in Saturday's cleanup campaign.
