BEIRUT, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Around 10 people were injured early Monday due to clashes between civil society protesters and supporters of two Shiite political parties in Lebanese capital Beirut's downtown, Al Jadeed local TV channel reported.
Civil society protesters started a demonstration on Sunday late night by blocking Ring Bridge in Beirut.
Shortly after, a number of men supporting Amal Movement and Hezbollah clashed with the protesters. The clashes lasted until Monday early morning while security forces had to use tears gas to disperse the two groups.
Hezbollah's supporters chanted slogans in support of Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah while protesters chanted slogans labeling Iran and Hezbollah as "terrorist."
Nationwide protests started on Oct. 17 in Lebanon leading to the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri's cabinet.
Protesters insist to stay in the streets until the whole political system is changed and corrupt politicians are held accountable for their malpractices which include the squandering of public funds.
Protesters have been also demanding for the formation of a new government capable of undertaking serious reform measures to save the deteriorating economy.
President Michel Aoun has so far failed to start consultations with parliament members to name a new PM who will be tasked to form the new government.
Aoun has also failed to convince protesters to leave the streets and hold a direct dialogue to agree on their demands and the process of implementing required reforms.
