1 killed, 3 injured as blast targets police van in Afghanistan's Helmand province

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- One police personnel has been confirmed dead and three others sustained wounds as blast targeted a police van in Nawa Barak Zayi district of the southern Helmand province on Saturday, said a statement of provincial government released here.

According to the statement, a mine planted by militants and exploded by remote control, struck a police van in Nawa Barak Zayi district Saturday morning, killing a commander of the Border Police Force and wounding three others including two police and a local reporter, the statement said.

Without providing more details, the statement said that investigation had been initiated into the incident.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Helmand province have yet to make comment.
