TRIPOLI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The UN-backed government of Libya on Wednesday warned against "undermining" the legitimacy of the UN-backed government.

Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala made the remarks during phone conversations with Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah.

"This phone call is part of the ongoing consultations among Arab Foreign Ministers in order to come up with a unified position (on Libya's political process) ...," said a statement issued by the Libyan Foreign Ministry's Information Office.

"The Minister stressed that any attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the Government of National Accord would have negative and serious consequences for the Libyan situation," the statement said.

The officials also discussed preparations for the upcoming Berlin conference on Libya which aims to end the ongoing armed conflict in Libya, the statement said.

The east-based army has been leading a military campaign for eight months in and around Tripoli, the capital of Libya, attempting to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.

The fighting killed and injured thousands of people and displaced more than 120,000 civilians.
