THE HAGUE, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- AZ Alkmaar closed their gap to Eredivisie leaders Ajax to three points, ahead of the two sides' clash on December 15.
After their first defeat of the season at home to Willem II on Friday, AZ bounced back to defeat PEC 3-0 in Zwolle on Saturday, with Oussama Idrissi scoring twice and Myron Boadu adding another.
PSV avoided a bigger crisis and more pressure on coach Mark van Bommel by beating Fortuna Sittard 5-0 in Eindhoven on Saturday. Ritsu Doan, Donyell Malen, Steven Bergwijn, Mohamed Ihattaren and Cody Gakpo were all among the goals.
Ajax still lead the Eredivisie table with 41 points from 16 matches, followed by AZ (38), PSV (31) and Willem II (29).
With interim coach Joseph Oosting on the bench instead of Leonid Slutsky, who stepped down last week, Vitesse drew 0-0 on Sunday at home against Feyenoord. After the resignation of coach Fons Groenendijk, ADO Den Haag also drew 0-0 at home against FC Twente, with interim boss Dirk Heesen on the bench.
