RAMALLAH, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces arrested five Palestinians on Tuesday, including two children, according to Palestinian sources.

The two children come from the city of Jericho, east of the West Bank. The other three were arrested during military raids into Ramallah and Hebron districts, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Association (PPS), a quasi-governmental organization that provides legal aid to Palestinian prisoners.

Meanwhile, an Israeli court has transferred Shatha Hasan, a 20-year-old Birzeit University student, arrested earlier this week, to administrative detention for three months.

Administrative detention is an Israeli policy that allows the army to withhold Palestinians in custody without charge or trial for different periods of time on the basis of secret information that prisoners or their lawyers are not allowed to get a hold of.

Currently, there are four female prisoners under administrative detention, all under the age of 26.

According to official Palestinian data, there are over 5,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails, including 42 women and some 500 under administration detention, without charge or trial.
