5.8-magnitude earthquake hits NE of Iran

TEHRAN, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- A 5.8-magnitude earthquake at the scale of Richter hit Sangan town in Iran's northeastern Khorasan Razavi province on Thursday morning, according to the Iranian Seismological Center.

According to the report, the epicenter of the quake was at the depth of 8 km, 34.030 north latitude and 60.325 east longitude, 300 km to the south of Iran's sacred Mash'had city.

No report is available about the possible casualties or damage so far.
