BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's northeastern province of Heilongjiang was the big winner in Alpine skiing at the country's 14th National Winter Games, with its skiers winning five of the six events.

In Monday's competition held in Beijing's Yanqing District, Heilongjiang's Ni Yueming won gold in the women's Super-G, followed by her teammates Zhu Tianhui and Kong Fanying. The men's gold was won by Cong Liang of the PLA team, with Heilongjiang's Zhang Xiaosong finishing a close second, after his previous two gold medals in downhill and Alpine combined.

"To catch up with world-class skiers in international competitions, there's still a long way to go," Ni told Xinhua. "It's hard but achievable if we work hard enough."

"It's not easy to get good scores on this challenging trail in Yanqing," said 23-year-old Cong. "But I think if we can train here with such good facilities, it'll be much easier for us to succeed in the coming international competitions."

The National Winter Games event is the first official competition to be held in Yanqing, one of the three clusters for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. On February 15 and 16, Yanqing will host the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup as the first test event ahead of the 2022 Games.
