HANGZHOU, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The sea-rail transport service has resumed daily operation between Ningbo-Zhoushan port in east China's Zhejiang Province and Yiwu, the world's leading small commodities market, in the same province.
A total of 45 containers loaded with solar accessories arrived at the port via the Yiwu-Zhoushan railway on Tuesday and will later be shipped to overseas markets.
With the resumption of the service, more commodities gathered in Yiwu are expected to reach global markets including Europe, America and Southeast Asia.
Due to the ongoing coronavirus epidemic, the sea-rail transport management team has also adopted "cloud working," introducing online procedure-handling measures to ensure smooth operation.
Dubbed "the world's supermarket," Yiwu receives more than 550,000 overseas buyers and sells commodities to more than 210 countries and regions every year.
The cargo throughput at Ningbo-Zhoushan port exceeded 1.1 billion tonnes last year, the only port in the world with an annual throughput of over 1.1 billion tonnes. The container throughput exceeded 800,000 twenty-foot equivalent units in 2019, making the port the second largest in the country's sea-rail transport industry after east China's Qingdao port.
