China's Consulate General in Houston issues travel alert to Chinese tourists about safety

HOUSTON, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, Texas, the United States on Monday urged Chinese tourists, enterprises and students to pay attention to travel safety for summer vacation in the southern U.S. region.

The Chinese diplomatic body usually issues the prompting message each year with aim at improving risk prevention and safety awareness among Chinese tourists for summer vacation.

In the message, the Chinese Consulate-General said it's important to pay attention to the weather forecast and local security reminders.

It also recommended that Chinese tourists make sure in advance that they have got appropriate insurance. Particularly, the Consulate-General stressed the safety issues of waterborne events.

On Thursday in Thailand, two boats were overturned in rough seas off the coast of Phuket island, which has left 42 dead and 14 still missing.

There were more than 130 tourists and crew on board, among whom 127 were Chinese tourists. Local authorities confirmed that all the dead and missing passengers were Chinese.
