MELBOURNE, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Two doubles teams featuring Chinese players have made it through to the round of 16 at the Australian Open on Friday, after overcoming their opponents, as well as the extreme weather conditions that saw temperatures rise above 43 degrees Celsius on court.

With a straight sets win in their first match up, 6th seeded pair Xu Yifan and her Canadian counterpart Gabriela Dabrowski, took on the European duo of Ekaterina Alexandrova and Anastasija Sevastova who were also riding high after their own first round win.

But the power of Dabrowski and the finisse of Xu proved too much for their opponents and they claimed the victory, 6-4, 6-4.

Later in the afternoon, China's Peng Shuai was in action with her partner Hsieh Su-Wei.

The two have played with each other on numerous occasions dating back to 2008 and looked very impressive in their first round outing of the tournament.

The 8th seed pair blasted past the first round and in the second, Lesley Kerkhove and Lidziya Marozava were also no match for the experienced duo.

They took the match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1 and now move into the last 16.
