MADRID, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona will be without Portuguese international full back Nelson Semedo for around five weeks, the Barca medical services confirmed on Sunday.

Semedo tore his left hamstring in the 85th minute of Barca's 6-1 win over Girona on Saturday night after appearing to struggle for a few minutes with the problem, which arose after Barca had used their three substitutes.

The injury means he would miss between 8-10 games, including the return leg of the Champions League against Chelsea and next weekend's visit of Atletico Madrid to the Camp Nou Stadium, which could all but assure the title for Barcelona if they are able to win the side who are currently second in the Liga Santander.

Semedo will also miss the next round of international matches in which Portugal will prepare for this summer's World Cup finals.

The 24-year-old joined Barca from Benfica over the summer and has made 16 league appearances, although many of them have been as a substitute for Sergi Roberto who has also enjoyed an excellent campaign on the right of the Barca defense.
