RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian government announced on Monday that Raul Jungmann will be the country's new Public Security Minister.

The ministry's creation was announced last week, and is expected to be formally executed through a presidential decree to be published later on Monday.

The move followed the federal intervention in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and reflects Temer's goal to focus on public security after the failure to carry out his social security reform.

Jungmann is currently serving as Brazil's Defense Minister, and as such has participated in the organization of several operations involving federal troops in the Brazilian states.

He will be replaced by Army General Joaquim Silva e Luna, who is currently the Defense Ministry's executive secretary.
