PARIS, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Timothy Weah, son of former FIFA World Player of the Year and current Liberian President George Weah, played his first Ligue 1 match as Paris Saint-Germain recorded a 2-0 road victory over Troyes on Saturday.

Timothy Weah, born in 2000, just earned his first professional contract from PSG before this season.

After replacing Giovani Lo Celso in the 77th minute, he fired a shot that was blocked by goalkeeper Erwin Zelazny in counter-attack just before the final whistle.

PSG were without their Brazilian star Neymar, who underwent successful foot surgery in Brazil on Saturday. The other two of big front three were also absent, as Kylian Mbappe was dealing with his right ankle, while Edinson Cavani was rested by the team.

The Ligue 1 leaders, also depleted of Marquinhos, Marco Verratti and Javier Pastore, made several changes to their starting lineup.

Zelazny was the hero for the home side in the first half. He had several excellent saves on shots from Lo Celso, Angel Di Maria and Christopher Nkunku.

However, the visitors managed to break the deadlock two minutes into the second period. Julian Draxler took advantage of Troyes' defensive mistake to latch onto Di Maria and the Argentine winger beat Zelazny.

Nkunku, who saw his overhead kick blocked just before the interval, sealed the win in a controversial manner with 13 minutes remaining, when he appeared offside to fire home.

After Wead's shot was denied by Zelazny, veteran substitute Dani Alves was on position to fire home, but the goal was ruled offside.

Following the victory that extended their lead back to 14 points atop the table, PSG geared up well for next Tuesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg against holders Real Madrid. PSG lost the first leg 3-1 in Spain.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Rennes moved to fifth after winning 2-0 at Amiens, Angers crushed Guingamp 3-0, Metz saw a 1-1 draw against Toulouse, and Saint-Etienne tied at 2-2 with Dijon.

Third-placed Marseille will host Nantes on Sunday, while Lyon will travel to Montpellier.
