Tokyo stocks advance in morning on eased tariff fears, possible DPRK-U.S. talks

TOKYO, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning after U.S. President Donald Trump said that some countries would be exempted from new tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, with news Trump will hold talks with Democratic People's Republic of Korea top leader Kim Jong Un by May also adding support.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 186.60 points, or 0.87 percent, from Thursday to 21,554.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 10.02 points, or 0.59 percent, to 1,719.97.

Construction, precision instrument, and oil and coal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
