JERUSALEM, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli troops responded with riot dispersal means in dealing with protesters in eastern Gaza on Friday, stressing Israel will not allow any harm to security infrastructure.

Israeli army said thousands of Palestinians rioted on Friday in five locations along the Gaza-Israeli border.

Palestinians hurled an explosive device and firebombs in an attempt to sabotage the security infrastructure along the border, according to a statement released by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The IDF troops responded with riot dispersal means in accordance with the rules of engagement, the statement added.

Israel will not allow any harm to security infrastructure that protects Israeli civilians, and will act against violent rioters who threaten to damage it, the IDF noted.

Thousands of Palestinians gathered at the eastern area of the Gaza Strip on Friday to carry on their protests in the third consecutive Friday mass rally against Israelis.

The six-week anti-Israel protest in Gaza, known as the "Great March of Return," started on March 30, and is expected to peak on May 15.
