SINGAPORE, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 1.7 percent, or 59.62 points, to close at 3,557.82.
A total of 2.21 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.54 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.17 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 233 to 193.
The STI index closed up 0.03 percent, or 1.01 points, to close at 3,498.2 on Tuesday.
