Three more films compete for 71st Cannes Film Festival's top prize

PARIS, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Cannes Film Festival selection committee on Thursday announced that three more films are competing for this year's edition, bringing to 21 the number of films competing for the Palme d'Or.

The added films are: "Un coutean dans le coeur" (Knife+heart) by the French Yann Gonzalez, "Ayka" by the Russian Sergei Dvortsevoy whose movie "Tulpan" won the Prize Un Certain Regard in 2008. For both directors, It will be their first time in Competition, according to organizers.

The third film is "Ahlat Agaci" (The Wild Pear Tree) by the Turkish Nuri Bilge Ceylanuri, winner of the Palme d'or 2014 for "Winter Sleep."

Festival President Pierre Lescure and his board of directors also announced that Danish director Lars von Trier, winner of the 2000 Palme d'or, would join the Official Selection with his new film "The House that Jack buil" that would be screened out of competition.

The 71st Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 8 to 19.
