Vietnam, Australia agree to boost multifaceted cooperation

HANOI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang and Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove agreed to reinforce political and strategic trust and all-round cooperation between the two countries on Thursday.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, including security, national defense, economy, trade, science, technology, education and training, the Vietnamese president said at a press briefing after talks with Australian guest.

Vietnam and Australia will seek ways to remove trade barriers, and lure more investment in such fields as infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, finance and banking, hi-tech agriculture and education.

Regarding security and defense cooperation, Australia will keep on joining hands with Vietnam in the fields of training officers for joining the United Nations peacekeeping force, and solving post-war consequences in Vietnam.

Also on Thursday, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Chairwoman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan met with Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove, respectively. Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong received the Australian Governor-General.
