KABUL, July 24 (Xinhua) -- At least three Afghan civilians were injured after five rockets struck into the western side of capital city Kabul on Tuesday, causing panic among its war-weary residents, police and witnesses said.

"The incident occurred at midday after five rockets fired by insurgents from an unknown location landed in Afshar-i-Selo neighborhood," witness Ahmad Fahim told Xinhua.

One rocket hit a house, injuring three people. The injured were shifted by police and rescue team to a hospital, he added.

Four rockets passed over the residential area and landed on the side of a mountain, he said.

Hashmat Stanikzai, a Kabul police spokesman, tweeted and confirmed that three civilians were affected by the attack.

Afghan Red Crescent, Kabul Police Academy and several other military and civilian government offices are located in the area.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Over the past few months, Afghanistan, especially Kabul, has witnessed waves of terror attacks by the Islamic State (IS) outfit and Taliban insurgents.

On Sunday, 23 civilians and police officers were killed and 107 others wounded after an IS terrorist detonated his suicide jacket at a crowded traffic circle near the capital's airport.

More than 1,690 civilians were killed and over 3,430 others injured in conflict-related incidents in the first half of the year in the war-torn country, according to figures released by the United Nations mission in the country.
