DUBAI, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) supports global peace and security efforts, said Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and UAE's deputy supreme commander of the Armed Forces, on Tuesday.
He made the remarks when hosting Eritrea's President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopia's President Mulatu Teshome at a tripartite summit in the capital Abu Dhabi, UAE state news agency WAM reported.
Peace efforts "are vital to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development for all peoples globally," said Zayed.
He said "the bold and historic step by the leaders of the two neighboring countries to end the conflict and open new horizons for cooperation and joint coordination is a model that can be followed in resolving conflicts around the world."
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on July 8 paid an official visit to the Eritrean capital Asmara, the first visit by an Ethiopian leader to Eritrea in 20 years.
The visit came after the two countries started tentative steps to end a two-decade-long bitter border dispute that led to a bloody two-year war from 1998 to 2000, leaving an estimated deaths of 70,000 people.
