JAKARTA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's star sprinter Su Bingtian won the men's 100m gold while Chinese shuttlers were shocked at the ongoing Asian Games on Sunday.
Su continued his top form this season as he clocked 9.92 seconds to win his first Asiad gold in Jakarta.
He also clocked 9.91 seconds in the men's 100m race at the Paris leg of the 2018 IAAF Diamond League in June, which tied the Asian record created by the Nigerian-born Qatari Femi Ogunode in 2015.
Tosin Ogunode, the younger brother of Femi Ogunode, edged Japan's Ryota Yamagata to win the Asiad silver for Qatar, while the Japanese settled for the bronze.
"It's my first Asiad gold medal, so I'm really happy. I had a lot of pressures before the final because I was burning by the desire to win," said Su.
"I'm proud to win honors for my country, but I do hope for more at the Tokyo Olympic Games," he added.
China's shot-putter Gong Lijiao, multiple world championship winner, grabbed her second Asiad gold comfortably. The 29-year-old veteran showed absolute dominance at the field to win the shot put gold in her sixth attempt of 19.66 meters.
Elsewhere, Wang Jianan won the men's long jump for China with 8.24 meters.
In badminton, Olympic men's singles champion Chen Long fell to home player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-19, 21-11 in 50 minutes in quarterfinals. This was the first time in 16 years for China to miss men's singles medal since the Busan Games.
On the same court, China's Chen Yufei also bowed out from women's singles quarterfinals after losing to Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-19, 21-11.
This means China failed to snatch a medal in women's singles for the first time since the very start of its participation in the Games 44 years ago.
In men's volleyball, China lost to defending champion Iran 3-0 and failed to make last four in the event.
China now lead the medal table on 78 gold, 59 silver and 37 bronze medals, followed by Japan and South Korea on 40 and 27 golds respectively.
