Chinese shares rally, Shanghai index halts 5-day losing streak

BEIJING, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed higher Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai index ending a five-day losing streak.

The Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.1 percent higher to close at 2,750.58 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.17 percent higher at 8,554.44 points.

Trading resumed strength on the two bourses with the combined turnover reaching 267.9 billion yuan (about 39.2 billion U.S. dollars), up from 243 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Software makers led the rebound with the sub-index growing 2.52 percent.

Shenzhen-listed B-soft saw its shares rise by the daily limit of 10 percent to close at 18.65 yuan, while Zhongfu Information and Winning Health Technology Group also posted maximum growth.

Bucking the trend, the chemical industry registered decline among broad recovery with sub-index down 1.35 percent. Shanghai Jahwa United was down 2.79 percent to close at 29.28 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board, gained 0.82 percent to close at 1,455.5 points.
