BERLIN, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Diego Contento will miss the first half of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, the newly promoted Bundesliga side confirmed on Monday.
The former Bayern Munich player sustained the injury in his left knee and had to be replaced during a test match against lower league side KFC Uerdingen.
According to the club's statement, Contento will be out of action "until further notice."
The 28-year-old left back joined the Fortuna from FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the summer transfer period. Contento made 74 appearances and two goals in four seasons for the French outfit.
Fortuna Dusseldorf will encounter Hoffenheim in the third round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
