RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Among the presidential candidates to run in Brazil's October elections, Jair Bolsonaro is favored by the rich while Fernando Haddad of the left-leaning Workers' Party (WP) is popular among the poorest voters, according to a poll released on Thursday.

The poll by Datafolha showed Bolsonaro of the right-wing Social Liberal Party (PSL) as the overall leader with the support of 28 percent of those polled. He was followed by Haddad with 16 percent, and Ciro Gomes of the Democratic Labor Party (PDT), with 13 percent.

In the poll, Geraldo Alckmin of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) had 9 percent support, and Marina Silva of the Sustainability Network Party had 7 percent.

At the same time, among those earning twice the minimum wage, Haddad led with 20 percent, versus 19 percent for Bolsonaro.

Among Brazilians earning more than 10 times the minimum wage, the poll showed Bolsonaro had 40 percent support, while Haddad had 15 percent.

In the northeast part of the country, or the WP's traditional vote bank, Haddad is in the lead with 26 percent support, while Bolsonaro and Gomes are tied at 17 percent. In the southern region, the poll showed a completely different situation, with Bolsonaro in the lead with 37 percent support, and Haddad and Gomes tied at 10 percent.

The Datafolha poll was carried out on Sept. 18-19 among 8,601 people from all over Brazil. The upcoming presidential elections are scheduled for Oct. 7.
