BERLIN, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich earned their fourth victory to maintain their perfect start after beating struggling Schalke 2-0 at the 4th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.

Goals from James Rodriguez and Robert Lewandowski were enough to ensure a nightmare start for Schalke, who lost their fourth straight game into the season.

The "Bavarians" ensured a bright start on the road as James Rodriguez headed home Joshua Kimmich's corner kick to mark the opener with eight minutes played.

Bayern increased the pressure and worked out opportunities but Schalke's goalkeeper Ralf Faehrmann denied James Rodriguez on a one-on-one before David Alaba rattled the woodwork with a free kick in the 32nd minute. Mats Hummels had another chance for the visitors but the defender headed over the target.

After the restart, Bayern retracted with the neat lead behind whereas uninspired Schalke lurked for chances to catch the German giants flatfooted.

Five minutes into the second half Bayern had the golden chance to double the lead but James Rodriguez missed the empty goal from very close range.

The "Royal Blues" almost punished the visitors as Breel Embolo missed the goal from promising position in the 53rd minute.

Bayern controlled the reins and let the ball do the work whereas Schalke defended deep to avoid another goal.

However, the hosts were hapless in the 63rd minute when Alessandro Schoepf felled James Rodriguez inside the penalty box, allowing Robert Lewandowski to kill the game from eleven meters.

With the result, Bayern Munich ousted Hertha Berlin from the top spot meanwhile Schalke dropped to the Bundesliga bottom.

"I am absolutely satisfied. We saw a very good game. My team dominated over ninety minutes. They created a lot of chances but, and that is the only downside, scored only twice," Bayern Munich's head coach Niko Kovac said.

The following fixtures conclude the 4th round on Sunday. Bayer Leverkusen host Mainz and Eintracht Frankfurt face Leipzig.
