Fenerbahce cruise past Buducnost in Euroleague win

BELGRADE, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Euroleague's regular season leaders, Fenerbahce beat Buducnost 89-65 in Podgorica on Thursday in the 14th round of the competition (26-20, 14-20, 27-15, 22-10).

First Nemanja Gordic inspired hope in some of 5,500 Buducnost's fans in the Moraca hall with a precise shot from distance, which was answered by a three-pointer from Fenerbahce's Ali Muhammed.

The visitors soon created some separation with a three-pointer from Erick Green at 7-10, but the Montenegrin team pushed back and managed to equalize thanks to a precise perimeter shot from Edwin Jackson at 18-18.

Fenerbahce's Nikola Kalinic and Jan Vesely created an advantage before the beginning of the second quarter, but it melted with a field goal from Jackson at 34-34. The score at halftime was 40-40. Buducnost took over the lead in the second half with a three-pointer from Coty Clarke.

At the beginning of the fourth period, Kostas Sloukas opened up a 12-point gap for his team with two precise free-throws, reducing the opportunity for the home team to catch up.

Fenerbahce's lead continued to grow thanks to great field goals from Marko Gudric and Joffrey Lauvergne to stretch the lead to 22 points at 61-83.

Fenerbahce had 15-27 efficiency in executing three-pointers, while Buducnost could only manage 4-13. Fenerbahce's Jan Vesely managed to get 19 points and 9 rebounds, followed by Lauvregne with 17 points.

On the other side Earl Clark scored 15 points, while Petar Popovic added 12 points. In the next round of the regular season Fenerbahce welcomes Real Madrid, while Buducnost travels to Germany to play against Bayern Munich.
