RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Brazil and Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa has joined Flamengo on loan after a successful 12-month spell with Santos.

A video in which the 22-year-old declares his allegiance to the Rio de Janeiro club was leaked on social media late on Tuesday, ending weeks of speculation about his future.

"Hey everybody, this is Gabriel," Barbosa said in the video, in which he is wearing a Flamengo shirt. "I'm already wearing the [Flamengo] colors. I'm part of the team," he added.

According to the Globo newspaper, the forward signed a 12-month contract extension with Inter to June 2022 for the deal to go ahead.

The parties are yet to agree on whether the loan will be for 12 or 18 months, it added.

Barbosa, who has scored two goals in four matches for Brazil's national team, netted just once in nine appearances for Inter following his 30 million euro move from Santos in 2016.

After an equally fruitless six-month spell with Benfica, he rejoined Santos on loan last January. The former child prodigy, who was linked with Real Madrid and Barcelona as a teenager, was the leading scorer in Brazil's Serie A last year with 18 goals from 35 matches.

Flamengo reportedly beat off interest from Santos and West Ham for the forward's signature.
