Chinese police seize seven in drug busts

KUNMING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police in Yunnan Province announced on Sunday that they have seized seven suspects and 140.8 kg of drugs in three separate anti-drug operations.

The arrests were made between Dec. 9, 2018, and Jan. 3, the Baoshan City Public Security Bureau said.

On Dec. 9, police seized 104 kg of methamphetamine after they stopped a truck near the airport in the city of Jinghong, a city administered by the city of Baoshan. Two suspects were apprehended.

A driver was arrested after police found 6 kg of opium from the car on Dec. 30 in Tengchong. Following the driver's tips, two more people suspected of drug dealing were seized, police said.

On Jan. 3, police caught two suspects in Baoshan can found 26.21 kg of heroin in their SUV.

Further investigation into the three cases is underway.

Yunnan is a major front in China's battle against drug crime as it borders the Golden Triangle, an area notorious for rampant drug production and trafficking. Baoshan borders Myanmar.
