GAZA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- A senior Islamic Hamas movement official said Wednesday that his movement received an official invitation from Egypt to attend a comprehensive dialogue that will be held in Cairo soon.

Husam Badran, member of Hamas politburo, said in an emailed press statement that Egypt invited his movement and other Palestinian factions to join a session of Palestinian national dialogue in Cairo.

"The meetings will discuss confronting the challenges that currently face the Palestinians and how to gain back unity and end internal division," said Badran, adding that Hamas welcomed the invitation.

Hamas leaders held talks in Cairo on Tuesday night with the Chief of Egyptian Security Intelligence General Abbas Kamel, which focused on internal reconciliation and achieving unity.

Hamas said in a press statement that the meeting with Kamel was positive and stressed on the depth of the bilateral ties and the historic role of Egypt to severe the Palestinian cause and back the Palestinian people.

A senior Islamic Hamas movement delegation headed by its politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh has been in Cairo since Sunday to hold talks with Egyptian officials on reinforcing a calm understanding brokered by Egypt between Hamas and Israel on November.
