Canadian stock market edges down

TORONTO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Canadian main stock market edged down Thursday as the energy group fell.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's benchmark Standard & Poor's/TSX Composite Index fell 8.95 points, or 0.06 percent, to 15,703.36.

The Canadian dollar tumbled 0.48 cents to 0.7519 U.S. dollar.

On the market, a total of 86 issues rose while 150 stocks fell. There were 18 new highs and two new lows, with a total volume of 252.8 million shares.

The energy group fell 3.51 points, or 2.35 percent, while the financials sector climbed 0.20 points, or 0.07 percent.

Among energy issues, NuVista Energy lost 30 cents to 3.76 Canadian dollars, while Suncor Energy lost 38 cents to 43.38 Canadian dollars..

Out of health-care issues, Canopy Growth accumulated 67 cents, or 1.1 percent, to 62.05 Canadian dollars, while Aurora Cannabis rose 34 cents, or 3.4 percent, to 10.32 Canadian dollars.

In real-estate, Brookfield Asset Management gained 41 cents to 58.09 Canadian dollars.
