RAMALLAH, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday it urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an investigation into the killing of a Palestinian earlier near Qalandia refugee camp, north of Jerusalem.
Israeli forces shot and killed Mohammad Dar Adwan, 23, and injured two others in an overnight military raid to the refugee camp.
Local sources said soldiers fired at close range at a Palestinian vehicle driving in a nearby street, killing Dar Adwan. They added that a large number of Israeli soldiers raided the refugee camp and detained at least three other siblings after storming their house inside the refugee camp.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry's statement described the incident as "a crime that adds up to the series of systematic Israeli escalation by Israeli forces and settlers against the Palestinian people."
The ministry held the Israeli government and its prime minister responsible for "the escalation and its consequences," urging the ICC to speed up the questioning of those involved.
Israeli army spokesperson said that the military forces "carried out an arrest raid into the camp, where Palestinian responded by hurling stones and Molotov cocktails towards them, which made soldiers open fire and injure a Palestinian."
Qalandia refugee camp, run by local social committees and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), is located approximately 10 km north of Jerusalem, into the periphery of Ramallah and Al-Bireh twin cities. It is home to nearly 14,000 residents, in area (C) in which Israel retains full control, but leaves lawless.
