BEIJING, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Beijing authorities have rolled out new plans to fight contamination of pesticides and fertilizers and improve supervision of the rural environment.

An action plan has specified 20 tasks by 2020 in the protection of drinking water sources in rural areas including installing sewage and garbage processing facilities, scaling back the use of pesticides, fertilizers and agricultural use of water and promoting public awareness of environmental protection in the countryside.

The plan was jointly issued by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau.

By 2020, the use of fertilizers will be reduced by 28 percent, and the use of pesticides by 15 percent from the 2015 level, the plan said.

The efficiency of irrigation facilities needs to be improved, and more animal waste and crop stalks will be recycled.
