Guerrero fires Internacional to victory against Flamengo

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Peru striker Paolo Guerrero scored against his former club Flamengo as Internacional secured their first win of the Brazilian Serie A season on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory in Porto Alegre.

The 35-year-old netted with a fourth-minute header before Flamengo defender Rhodolfo Dini had a goal ruled out by the video assistant referee.

Uruguayan playmaker Giorgian Arrascaeta equalized for the visitors on the hour mark but Martin Sarrafiore struck 10 minutes after coming off the bench to restore Inter's lead.

The result lifted Internacional to 12th in the 20-team standings while Flamengo fell to sixth.

Meanwhile Sao Paulo continued their unblemished start to the season with a 2-1 victory at Goias.

Alexandre Pato netted his first goal since his return to the club from Tianjin Tianhai and Jonas Nunes was also on target for the visitors. Leandro Barcia pulled a goal back for Goias,

Sao Paulo rose to the top of the standings with two wins from as many matches while Goias slid to 11th.

In other fixtures on Wednesday, Fortaleza clinched a 2-1 home victory to Athletico Paranaense, Atletico Mineiro won 2-1 at Vasco da Gama, Gremio drew 1-1 at Avai, Cruzeiro overcame Ceara 1-0 at home, Corinthians beat Chapecoense in Sao Paulo 1-0 and Palmeiras drew 1-1 at CSA.
