NAIROBI, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan outfit and domestic cup winners, Kariobangi Sharks FC will play English Premier League club Everton FC in Nairobi on July 7, the latter confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, Everton Football Club confirmed it would travel to Nairobi to take on Sharks in the first 2019 pre-season friendly ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The game, organized through partnership with betting firm SportPesa partnership will be played at the Chinese-built Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, the biggest stadium in the east African country that has a 60,000-seater capacity.

Sharks are winners of the 2019 edition of the SportPesa Cup, East Africa's biggest football tournament, which took place in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, in January.

Their 1-0 win over Bandari FC gave them regional supremacy and the opportunity to play Everton besides pocketing the slum-based top flight local side 30,000 U.S. dollars in prize money.

The game against Sharks marks Everton's second visit to East Africa.

Everton travelled to Tanzania in July 2017 to face inaugural SportPesa Cup winners Gor Mahia FC in a game the Toffees won 2-1 - the first time a Premier League club had visited East Africa.

In November 2018, Kenya's Gor travelled to Goodison Park - the first occasion an East African club side has played a Premier League club in the UK.
