TEHRAN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian oil tanker has docked at the Saudi Arabia's port of Jeddah in the Red Sea due to a technical failure in the engine, the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) said on Thursday.

The technical failure caused water leakage to the engine room as the vessel was heading to the Suez Canal in the Red Sea on Tuesday morning, the NITC said in a statement.

All of the 26 crew, including 24 Iranians and two Bangladeshis, are safe, according to the statement.

It denied the reports about environmental damage and spill from the content of the Iranian tanker into the sea.

Saudi Arabia said on Thursday that it has responded to an emergency call from an Iranian oil tanker off the coast of Jeddah.

The Saudi Arabia's state news agency SPA said that Saudi coast guard assisted the Iranian tanker off the coast of Jeddah in the Red Sea after Riyadh received an official request for help from Tehran.
