SYDNEY, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Sydney FC smashed rivals Melbourne Victory 6-1 in the A-League semifinals on Sunday night, booking a final matchup with Perth Glory on May 19.

Played out in front of Sydney's home crowd at Jubilee Stadium, Melbourne trailed 3-0 at halftime with a last minute own goal adding to their humiliation.

After running the scoreline up to 6-0, Sydney shrugged off a headed goal in the 90th minute which offered Melbourne fans some meagre if much needed consolation.

Sydney head coach, Steve Corica said he was happy with the result but was always expecting to win on the night.

"Maybe not the scoreline but we were very confident we'd go into the game and get the win," Corica said at a post-match press conference.

"I did say at some stage we'd smash some team. It was tonight."

For Melbourne coach Kevin Muscat, the result came as more of a surprise, especially since the team finished as major premiers last season.

"Tonight, whichever way you want to look at it, we didn't perform," Muscat said.

"Unfortunately for us, in sport you have your highs and today was certainly a low."
