NAIROBI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenya has named a strong team as it returns to the regional CECAFA Under-20 Women Championships, which will be staged in Nairobi in July, eyeing the title.

The regional competition, which is open to 12 countries, is part of a grassroots development project launched by world football governing body FIFA, in partnership with the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA).

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa says he hopes the Kenya team, known as Junior Starlets, will restore its dominance and win the competition.

"Preparations for the CECAFA U-20 Women's Championships, which Kenya is set to host, have kicked off, with the naming of 36 players set to take part in a selection exercise," said Mwendwa on Tuesday in Nairobi.

"The list largely features top performers from the youth tournament, among them Nuru Hensley, Lavenda Murumwa, Jane Njeri, and Joy KingLady."

Kenya will be up against teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Djibouti.
