BRATISLAVA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Having played four preliminary games, Italy are still waiting for their first goal and Group B point at the Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia after a humiliating 10-0 loss against the star-filled roster of Russia on Wednesday.

Russia's Andrei Vasilevski made 15 saves on his second shutout and watched his Italian counterparts Andreas Bernard and Marco de Filippo Roia concede a total of 10 goals.

The 10-0 win marks Russia's single highest win margin at a top-level tournament and the highest at the hockey worlds in Slovakia.

The goal fest in Bratislava ended Alexander Ovechkin's scoring drought. The Washington Capitals' star player scored his first tournament goal in the first period from his favorite left slot. The two Yevgenis, Dadonov and Kuznetsov, scored two goals each to split the title of the game's top shooter, the latter added two assists.

Russia, with four wins, now edge Switzerland with a better score to lead Group B. On Saturday, they will face Latvia. Italy will continue their mission to score the first goal and earn some points on Friday against the Czech Republic.
