BEIRUT, May 10 (Xinhua) -- President of the Lebanese Saudi Business Council Raouf Abou Zaki called upon the Lebanese officials to avoid dragging Lebanon into intense regional conflicts by adopting stances against Saudi Arabia.

The council is keen to stimulate investment flows and relations of brotherhood and partnership between the Saudis and the Lebanese, Abou Zaki said in a statement issued on Monday.

"Hence, we call on all Lebanese political forces to stop all forms of tension and political bickering while cooperating in taking Lebanon out of its economic and financial crisis," he added.

He said that Lebanon should restore its ties with Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia.

"We call upon the Saudis to understand the sensitive Lebanese situation and the political conflicts prevailing in the country and deal with Lebanon based on the historical relations between the two countries," he said.

Zaki's comments came after remarks by Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil two days earlier, saying that "it is normal for Lebanese officials to defend Lebanese labor in the face of any other labor, be it Syrian, Palestinian, French, Saudi, Iranian or American."

Bassil's remarks were met with criticism by Saudi nationals all over social media networks and Lebanese officials in support of the kingdom while accusing Bassil of being racist and careless about Lebanon's future ties with Arab countries.
