ISLAMABAD, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan will embark on a five-day official visit to the United States on July 20, Special Assistant to Pakistani PM Naeem ul Haque said on Friday evening.

The special assistant told media that the prime minister's visit was scheduled after both sides finalized the details of the tour.

It would be Khan's first visit to the United States since he took charge as the prime minister of the country last year.

He will hold meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump and other high-level officials during his visit from July 20 to 24, the official added.

During his meetings with Trump, Khan is likely to discuss matters pertaining to Pak-U.S. bilateral relations and regional situation, especially of the Afghan peace process.

The official hoped that the upcoming visit would improve Pak-U.S. bilateral relations and will open new ways for peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told media that the prime minister is likely to have a meeting with Trump in the near future.
